Choral Evensong

The Choir led the Parish Church’s choral evensong service. The service included sung responses, choral settings of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis and an anthem.

‘Concert & Cakes’ – English choral music through the centuries

After a gap of 6 years the Singers returned to Stony Stratford on the northern outskirts of Milton Keynes to give a short Sunday afternoon concert in aid of the ongoing maintenance of the Church’s restored Willis pipe organ. The concert consisted of a mixture of unaccompanied English sacred and secular choral music. Tea and cakes were served in the interval. (Further details)

A Celebration of Christmas

The Singers’ popular end-of-year concert for 2018 was part of the Church’s Christmas Tree Festival weekend. The Singers presented a festive selection of Christmas music and songs for all the family. Included in the concert was a performance of Karl Jenkins’s ‘A celebration of Christmas’ and Bob Chilcott’s fun and wacky arrangement of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’. (Further details)

Cathedral weekend

In 2018 the singers were delighted to have visited Leicester Cathedral for the first time. Services were Choral Evensong at 5.30pm on the Saturday and Sung Eucharist at 10.30am and Choral Evensong at 3.00pm on the Sunday. (Further details)

Mayor’s Carol Concert

The Singers were delighted to have been asked to take part in the annual Leighton Buzzard Mayor’s Carol Concert which raises money for the Mayor’s charities. They joined the the Salvation Army Citadel Band and Songsters and the All Saints Choir in an enjoyable concert of Chirstmas music and well-known carols. The Singers contribution consisted of four short pieces – ‘My Lord has come’ by Will Todd, Leontovich’s ‘Ring Christmas bells’, ‘Christmas is coming’ arranged by Walford Davies and ‘Gaudete’.

Raising the roof at Christmas

The Singers were guests of the Vale Symphonic Wind Band for a concert of Christmas music to raise funds for the Church’s forthcoming major building and restoration project. (Further details)

Cathedral weekend

The Choir’s annual visit to sing the services in a British cathedral, which is always a highlight of the Choir’s year. Services were Choral Evensong (unaccompanied) at 5.30pm on the Friday, Choral Evensong at 4.30pm on the Saturday and Sung Eucharist at 10.15am and Choral Evensong at 3.00pm on the Sunday. ‘Celebrate!: Choral music to sing in the summer’

Another in the Choir’s highly successful series of short Sunday afternoon recitals followed by tea and cakes. Programme included Songs and Sonnets, George Shearing’s popular jazzy settings of texts by Shakespeare. After tea, the Choir sang at the Church’s Choral Evensong service at 6.00pm. This was the second concert to celebrate the Choir’s 40th anniversary. All proceeds were in aid of St Barnabas Church. (Further details)

Tallis – 40-part motet

The Linsdale Singers and local choirs Polymnia and Quorum joined the Open University Choir (conductor Bill Strang) for a spectacular concert that included Tallis’s 40-part motet Spem in alium and Andrea Gabrieli’s Magnificat in 12 parts. (Further details)

‘Reflection: Choral music to nurture the soul’

Another in the Choir’s highly successful series of short Sunday afternoon recitals followed by tea and cakes. Programme included Howells’ unaccompanied Requiem. After tea, the Choir sang at the Church’s Choral Evensong service at 6.00pm. This concert marked the first of two concerts celebrating the Choir’s 40th anniversary. All proceeds were in aid of St Barnabas Church. The concert was also an Oxjam 2017 Music Festival event, so there was a collection for the work of Oxfam. (Further details)

Wing 2017 ‘Musicathon’

The Choir sang a range of old and new songs from serious to lighthearted for Scannappeal’s ‘eye see appeal’ that is raising money to purchase five new specialist machines for Stoke Mandeville Hospital’s Eye Department. The Musicathon ran from 9am to 9pm, entry was free and refreshments were be available all day. (Event flyerMusic sung)

A Ceremony of Carols

The Singers’ popular end-of-year concert for 2016 was part of the Church’s Christmas Tree Festival weekend. Christmas music and songs for all the family included Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, carols by John Rutter, A Winter’s Night (Christmas Cantata) by Celia McDowall and Christmas songs. ‘Gloria’ – Choral Classics

A joint concert with the Circle Singers of Leamington Spa. Programme included motets by Bruckner, the sublime Mass in G for unaccompanied double choir and soloists by Vaughan Williams and the ever-popular Gloria by Vivaldi. (Further details)

Friday–Sunday, 8th–10th April 2016

Norwich Cathedral

Cathedral visit

Departing from their usual July cathedral visit, this year the Choir visited Norwich Cathedral two weeks after Easter. They sang for Evensong at 3.30pm on the Friday, Evensong at 3.30pm on the Saturday, and Eucharist at 10.30am and Evensong at 3.30pm on the Sunday. This was the first time a cathedral visit had included singing in a Friday service in addition to the weekend services. (Further details)

Cathedral visit

The Singers first ever cathedral visit was to Peterborough Cathedral in July 1989. This year’s annual visit to sing the services in a British cathedral saw the Singers returning to Peterborough for the first time exactly 25 years since this first visit. (Further details)

Karl Jenkins: The Peacemakers

To mark the 100th anniversary of the commencement of the First World War, the Singers gave a performance of Karl Jenkins’ 2011 work that sets to music texts from some of the greatest peacemakers throughout history. The Linsdale Singers and Orchestra were joined by the South Beds Youth Voices. (Further details)

Choral music for Advent Sunday

On Advent Sunday at 4.00pm, the Singers gave another in their successful series of short Sunday afternoon recitals. This time the recital consisted of music for the season of Advent. It was followed by tea and, for those who wished to stay, the Choir led the Church’s Advent carol service at 6.00pm. Admission to the recital was £5 at the door, with of course free attendance at the carol service. Proceeds from the recital were in aid of St Barnabas Church. (Further details)

The concert includes Zadok the priest and the ‘Hallelujah’ chorus by Handel, Haydn’s Little organ mass, Mendelssohn’s Hear my prayer (includes ‘O for the wings of a dove’) and Purcell’s ‘Rejoice in the Lord alway’ (the Bell anthem). ‘Gloria’

The Singers&rsquo popular end-of-year concert in their ‘home’ church. This year the Choir was joined by the South Beds Youth Voices. Music included Vivaldi’s Gloria, Schutz German Magnificat, carols for Advent and Christmas music by John Rutter.

Festival Service

The Singers sung at the Church’s patronal festival service, music included the mass Jesu redemptor by Adolfo Kaim (1825–1887) and Victoria&rsquos motet O Quam Gloriosum.

‘Palm Sunday to Easter’

A concert of English choral music for Holy week and Easter. Music included motets and anthems for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter, including the Five Mystical Songs by Vaughan Williams.

Festival Choral Evensong

The Singers sung in a choral evensong to mark the end of the Church’s flower festival weekend. Music included the Smith responses, Gibbons Short Service, and Byrd’s motet Sing Joyfully.

A concert of two halves: anthems and motets for All Saints and St Mary in the first half; madrigals, romantic partsongs and song arrangements in the second half. The concert ended with two arrangements of popular songs from the World War II era to mark the 60th anniversary of the war’s end.

The Singers’ annual visit to sing the services in a British cathedral. This year the Choir also sung in a choral communion service at St Paul’s Church in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter on the way home from Lichfield on the Sunday eveing.
