Karl Jenkins
The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace

Sunday 9th November 2014 (Remembrance Sunday) at 3.00pm
St Michael’s Church
Woburn Sands, Bedfordshire MK17 8TA

On Remembrance Sunday afteroon, the Singers performed Karl Jenkins’ popular mass to mark the 100th anniversary of the commencement of the First World War. It followed hot-foot on from the Linsdale Singers’ performance of Jenkins’ more recent work The Peacemakers that the Singers performed in Leighton Buzzard last March – again as a First World War commemoration (details of this concert can be found here).

The concert lasted one hour and ‘The Armed Man’ was the only piece in the short concert. The Singers were accompanied by organ, piano, cello, percussion and two trumpets. It was a great success with the Singers rising to the occasion to give a very moving and powerful rendition of Karl Jenkins’ work.

After the concert, the very appreciative audience of some 200 people were treated to a splendid array of tea and cakes, provided by members of the church and which was included in the ticket price.

The Singers last visited St Michael’s in 2010, so another visit was long overdue and the Singers were delighted to be returning to the Church once more.

All proceeds from the concert were divided between the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes.
