Singing workshop led by Simon Berridge
based around extracts from The Armed Man: A Mass For Peace by Sir Karl Jenkins
In advance of its concert on 24th November 2024, the Linsdale Singers will be presenting a Singing Workshop based around extracts from Karl Jenkins's popular choral work The Armed Man: A Mass For Peace.
The workshop will be led by Simon Berridge, ex-member of both world-renowned choral group 'The Sixteen' and the BBC Singers, and after ten years the Choir is delighted to welcome him back to give another of his exciting and engaging workshops.
The workshop is open to any singer who would like to sing sections of the Karl Jenkins's popular mass while honing their choral skills. Among other things, it is hoped the workshop will cover vocal production, pitch and ensemble singing.
There may be the opportunity for participants to join the Choir for the rehearsals and sing in the performance of the whole work on Sunday 24th November.
Light refreshments will be available but you should bring your own lunch, or buy something locally.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Cost of the workshop is £5 to cover score hire and refreshments. To book your place please email chair@linsdale.org.uk with the subject 'Workshop' giving your name and voice part (soprano, alto, tenor or bass) or alternatively telephone 07463266766.
The Linsdale Singers acknowledges the support of the Leighton–Linslade Town Council through a grant from the Leighton–Linslade Arts Forum.

‘As Torrents in Summer’
A watery-, summery-themed concert including ‘Captain Noah and his floating zoo’
For their summer 2024 concert the Linsdale singers will be letting their hair down with a selection of light choral pieces that all have a watery or summery theme. The Choir is delighted to welcome back Paul Daggett as piano accompanist.
The main work will be 'Captain Noah and his floating zoo', a light-hearted children's 'pop cantata' recounting the biblical story of Noah's flood. Music is by Joseph Horovitz and the very witty words are by Michael Flanders – best known for his stage partnership with Donald Swann. Also to be included is George Dyson's 'Four songs for sailors' – a short set of pieces chosen to mark the 60th anniversary of the composer's death.
These two works will be integrated within a programme of short choral arrangements or original pieces that all have a summer or water connection. These include Eric Whitacre's 'Seal lullaby', James Molloy's 'Kerry dance', James Erb's popular arrangement of 'Shenandoah' and, of course, Edward Elgar's partsong 'As torrents in summer'.
All in all the evening concert should provide much to enjoy for all ages.
During the interval refreshments will be available, kindly provided by members of St Barnabas, with profits going to the Church.

A chance to meet, chat and sing with a view to joining this happy choir
A chance to meet, chat and sing with a view to joining this happy choir
Have you ever thought about joining a choir and experiencing all the health and social benefits that singing in a choir can bring?
Are you still at school and aged 16 or over and interested in finding out what it's like to sing in a small chamber choir?
Do you sing with a community choir and would like to take the next step to something a little more taxing where you can take your vocal and musical skills to the next level?
Are you a 'lapsed' choral singer - perhaps you have some choral experience, have recently moved to the area and are now looking for a choir to join?
The Linsdale Singers is Leighton Buzzard's premier Chamber Choir and sings a wide range of music both sacred and secular, accompanied and unaccompanied, old and new. We sing mostly in four parts - soprano, alto, tenor and bass and our aim is to be the best we can be.
If this is something you might like to experience then do come along to our Open Evening on Thursday 29th September in St Barnabas Church starting at 8pm (ending at 9.30pm). You'll be made very welcome, there'll be a chance to meet the singers and join the choir in singing a range of choral pieces of the type the Singers perform. All music will be provided. To ensure we have sufficient copies of the music, it would be helpful, but not essential, if you could email info@linsdale.org.uk beforehand to let us know you're coming. Also do use this email address if you would like some more information about the Open Evening or the Choir in general. We look forward to meeting you on the 29th.
If you are unable to join us on the 29th, then you are welcome to come along to any of our regular Thursday evening rehearsals. Just email info@linsdale.org.uk to let us know you're coming.
Covid precautions: The Choir is still operating some Covid precautions - please don't come if you feel unwell or you or a member of your family has tested positive. Singers will sing distanced from other singers, and everyone is asked to take responsibility and respect other people's space. Masks/face coverings can be worn if desired.
