Joining the Linsdale Singers
The Choir welcomes new singers of any age and from any background, and there are vacancies in all voice sections from time to time. However, due to the demands of the type of music the choir tackles, members should have some experience of choral singing, ideally in a small choir, and be readers of music. After singing at rehearsals for a few weeks, new recruits need to pass a simple audition before they can become full members. Rehearsals take place in or just outside Leighton Buzzard on Thursday evenings, and members are expected not to have any other regular commitments on these evenings that will prevent them from attending rehearsals.
The Choir performs predominantly in churches where the building’s acoustics enhance the type of unaccompanied music the choir most often sings. Potential members need therefore to feel comfortable about singing in such venues – both in concerts and services. However, there is no requirement for any singer to be a member of a religious denomination and the choir is not affiliated to any religious institution.
Choral scholarships
The Choir offers a limited number of choral scholarships to young singers aged 16–20. Benefits include: a free year’s subscription followed by a reduced rate subscription in subsequent years; regular reviews with the Musical Director to assist development of choral voice skills; a Mentor from within your choir section to facilitate participation; a full reference at the end of the year to enhance CV and/or educational applications; experience of singing a range of accompanied and unaccompanied music in a UK cathedral; widening your range of musical experience from Palestrina and Byrd to Rutter and Whittacre; development of your sight reading and listening skills.
