Christmas concert, cakes & choral evensong

Christmas with the Linsdale Singers

Sunday 13th December 2015
Concert at 4.00pm, tea and cakes at 5.00pm
followed by Choral Evensong service at 6.00pm

St Michaels Church, Woburn Sands, Bedfordshire MK17 8TA

Following the great successes of previous ‘Concert & cakes’ afternoon recitals, the Linsdale Singers were delighted to have been invited back to St Michael’s Church to give another short Sunday afternoon recital of choral music. At the end of the recital tea and cakes were served, prepared by members of the Church’s choir, after which the Singers sang Advent choral evensong in the Church at 6.00pm. Admission to the recital and tea was £5 at the door. Admission to the evensong service was of course free. All proceeds were given to the Church for various renovation/modernisation projects they are involved in.

The concert lasted just over an hour and, being so close to Christmas, comprised Christmas music – both old and new, sacred and secular, together with some well-known carols for all to sing (click on the ‘Lists of music’ link below to see the full list of music performed). The Singers were accompanied by their regular organist, Paul Daggett, who also played some short Christmas arrangements for organ. The recital was the perfect start to the Christmas festivities, and was a treat for all the family. It was a great success and very much enjoyed by a full and appreciative audience.

As the concert Sunday was still in the season of Advent, the evensong service at 6.00pm included music and readings appropriate for Advent. Like the concert, the service also went very well with the Choir sounding at their best in the Church’s good acoustics.

The Singers have recently been supported by the Leighton Linslade Town Council through the Leighton Linslade Arts Forum with a grant to purchase some new music, some of which was used for the first time in the concert. The Choir is very grateful for such grants as the purchase of new music represents a significant drain on the group’s limited resources.
